I loved this book by Kasey Edwards…..’Thirty something and over it: what happens when you wake up and don’t want to go to work….ever again?’.  Classic!  Who hasn’t felt like that!

I can relate to it from so many moments in the past.  Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved many aspects of my jobs, but many times I’ve felt that there had to be more to my life than doing well on the treadmill.  I knew whatever the answer was it would take a fair bit of nurturing and I just couldn’t find the time between work, study, singing, exercising, domestics and of course the socialising and partying.  There was never enough time for any self reflection of substance or longevity.

Unfortunately I can’t say that I’ve found the answer to myself in this little piece of universe quite yet, but I can say that I’ve come a lot closer!  One of the blessings of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) for me has been that I’ve had all this time alone with myself with the inability to be distracted and within that space I’ve been able to find some sense and truth for myself.  It’s been tough a lot of the time, but it has also been a very rewarding journey so far.  Sometimes its good to stand outside of our lives for a while and take an objective look in.

So if you can relate to the chasing of a career or the filling of life with stuff only to question the overall value of the situation well I’d advise you to give this book a crack.  It’s very light reading, amusing and a little educational.  I particularly love the chapters on the Vipassana Meditation Centre experience, very funny!

Kasey has written this book from her own experience and also includes some additional perspectives of what makes people happy, from interactions with friends and work colleagues around her.

Overall the book has some great messages about finding happiness in life and I’d recommend it for a bit of entertainment and inspiration.

This is Kasey’s first book.  She lives in Melbourne and you can find out more about her at www.kaseyedwards.com.
